Questions To Ask When Apartment Hunting

Ascent Property Management • Oct 04, 2022

Ahh, apartment hunting – an often exciting yet stressful experience. But it doesn't have to be. A little extra prep work before you sign that lease can help reduce stressful surprises after the U-Haul leaves the driveway.

Test Cell Service

While phones can function off of wifi these days, you should still test your cell signal. If you rely on wifi for service, a potential outage could cause problems.

Water Pressure

Low water pressure can be a nuisance. To check the water pressure, ask if you can run the kitchen sink and shower simultaneously.

It isn't realistic to test things such as the dishwasher during your showing, but you can ask about the lifespan of any appliances and if there is any plan to replace old items.

Test Drive

You should always do a test drive of your daily commute during traffic hours. In addition to rush hour, checking out the neighborhood during off-peak hours can give you a better sense of daily noise levels.

If the property is near any event centers (think school football field or music venue), try to visit the area on a busy night to get a better idea of noise and parking.

As Earth Day approaches, it's the perfect time to consider making eco-friendly updates to your rental property. Not only do these updates contribute to a healthier planet, but they can also save you some money in the long run! Energy-Efficient Lighting One of the simplest yet most impactful eco-friendly updates you can make is replacing traditional incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs. LED bulbs consume significantly less energy and last longer than incandescent bulbs, resulting in lower electricity bills and reduced environmental impact. Additionally, consider installing motion sensors or timers to automatically turn off lights when not in use, further conserving energy.
